Considering the many high-end flagship phones being released by different phone companies, Samsung is said to take its game a notch higher than before as it prepares to release the Galaxy S23. We may have some expectations from Samsung, but are they really what we want to see? Find out in this article as I follow you through the rumours.

To make reading quite easy, I have sectioned this article into various subheadings, making it easier for you to navigate through the reading and find key points.

Grab some popcorn, sit back and relax as we coast off,

Enjoy!

What to expect

When it comes to high-end flagship devices, there is no doubt that Samsung is one of the masters in the game after Apple. Taking cues from their most recent release of the Galaxy S lineup – the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra, even though the former were less innovative, the trio still gave us a feel of the Galaxy Note.

Consequently, there have been several rumours about the Galaxy S23 model and observing the patterns in the leaks scattered all through the internet, and it seems like Samsung just top-up their pace. How do I know this? The following paragraph confirms this;

Release date

If you recall, Samsung launched the Galaxy 21 series in January 2021 and its successor, the Galaxy S22, earlier in the year, around February, so if the calculations are rightly done, we should expect a launch around the same time, say, around February 17th, 2023.

Albeit, if you are a doubting Thomas like me, who always seek additional evidence to things before immersing yourself in believing them. In that case, this battery evidence certification claim is for you. As evidence to back this claim up that the Galaxy S23 Plus will ship in February 2023, it was leaked that a battery for such a device appeared in early September for certification with a South Korean organization. The date coincides with the S22 rollout, indicating that a launch in February 2023 is on schedule.

However, recent leaks indicate that Samsung might want to release the S23 sometime around mid-January, thus, preventing people from switching to non-Samsung phones in the new year. To prove this, a report claims a Korean mobile carrier would start taking pre-orders in December. Whichever way it turns out, there is a high probability that the S23 launch will be able to catch the first quarter of 2023.

Specs

Regarding its spec, we all know that Samsung is a game changer. From the leaks so far, in terms of design, there isn’t much of a difference in the S23 lineup as Samsung borrows a cue from the S22 designs in their S23 lineups. However, according to hints from the leaked Galaxy S23 Ultra renders, which show a possible prototype for the forthcoming flagship, there is a huge semblance with the S22. Although this prototype is not the final design, the only differentiating factor may be that the final product may feature noticeable metal rings around the camera edges, thinner sides, and display.

Display and Dimension

The dimensions and screen sizes of the phones are substantially identical to those of their predecessor models. From Ice Universe leaks, the display is one of the features that get an upgrade, but it didn’t specify in which aspect. The Galaxy S23 will feature a 6.1-inch 1080×2340 pixel display, the Galaxy S23+ a 6.6-inch 1080×2340 display, and the S23 Ultra a 6.8-inch 1440×3088 display. So, while there may not be significant changes to the front design of the S23 and S23 Plus, you’ll surely get a noticeable change when you flip them over.

Rumours from Ice Universe states that the phone’s dimension measures 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 inches, slightly more than the 6.42 x 3.06 x 0.35 inches of the S22 Ultra.

All of this is true even though a new camera lens is believed to be one way we can end up with a more extensive camera module and a bigger phone. Does this mean that Samsung could be adding to the bezel thickness of the Galaxy S23 in a bid to increase the durability of the phone? Well, I can’t say for now, but over time, we’ll get a clearer perspective as we inch closer to the launch date.

Camera

The camera specs of the S23 have been the subject of several speculations as rumours from Ice Universe show that the Samsung S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP camera of 0.6 mm pixels, with an f/1.7 wider aperture to capture more light in the form of an unreleased sensor hinting to be ISOCELL HP2 which would be a significant improvement above the 108MP camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the 48MP camera sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro.

Further, Ice Universe states that the 200MP main camera and 16x magnification without AI enhancement of the S23 will perform better in taking low-light pictures, thus setting a pace in photography.

Also, another hint from GalaxyCLub states that the Galaxy S23 models will feature a 12MP front camera, thus making it the first time a selfie resolution upgrade will be made to the galaxy series since the launch of the Galaxy S10 in 2019. On the other hand, there are no upgrades to the telephotos and ultrawide cameras as they still feature the 10MP 10x optical zoom camera. Although GalaxyClub refuted this claim, it states that the S23 and S23 Plus will feature 11MP and 12MP sensors for their ultrawide. Well, that’s not much of a difference if you ask me.

Additionally, rumours from OnLeaks show the S23 prototype having separate built-in camera sensors, similar to the S22 Ultra. As evidence, new prototype cases for the three models of the S23 support this claim.

Chipset and Performance

Going by the previous release from Samsung, we expect the S23 to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered by Qualcomm’s latest silicon chip giving it an edge over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of the previous year. An implication of this is the more advanced AI engine and image signal processors that bring lots of fascinating camera functionalities.

Battery

Regarding battery life, the Samsung Galaxy S23 model is rumored to get a new light performance mode. According to reports, this mode would help lower the processor’s performance to prevent it from consuming extra power and to keep it cooler, which will assist in prolonging the battery’s lifespan in general.

To this effect, the S23 is rumored to feature a 5% increase in battery power which is a slight increase from that in the S22, leaving it at a 3900 mAh, while S23 Plus may get a 4700 mAh battery, which is about 200 mAh from the S22 Plus.

On the other hand, several rumors point out that the S23 Ultra will feature the same 5000 mAh battery as in the S21 Ultra; however, the only bailout will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip in the S23 which will come with power management features.

Charging Speed

According to leaks from Ice Universe, the Galaxy S23 may have the same 25W charging speed as the Galaxy S22, and the Galaxy S23 Plus and S23 Ultra may have the same 45W charging speed as its predecessor. It appears that Samsung will continue to use charging to distinguish between entry-level devices and more expensive variants.

Color

Samsung surely has a thing for colors, which is no different in the soon-to-be-released model. The S23 is rumored to come in four brilliant colors, beige, black, green, and light pink colors.

Price

The base model of the S23 is expected at $799, while the S23 Plus is expected to sell at $999. The S23 Ultra is expected to start at $1199, while the 256GB will likely sell at $1299, the 512GB at $1399 and the 1TB at $1599.

There you have it, best believe the specs you’ve read so far are enough to whet your appetite as we all anticipate the release of the Galaxy S23 models. Till another time,

Cheers!
