It’s Apple’s way of doing business to release newer versions of their products every year. In the iPad category, they released an entry-level, budget-friendly slate in mid-September 2021. Undoubtedly, there are reliable rumors that come September this year; the iPad 10th generation will be greeting the tech world.

Yes, we are still in May, and we are barely into the middle of the year, but we’ve started hearing a lot about what Apple is cooking as per the new iPad 10th generation 2022. So, if you’re itching to know the latest leaks, why not grab a cup of your favorite drink, and let’s check it out together?

iPad 10th Generation 2022 Rumored Release Date

All the feelers we are getting as to the possible release date for the 2022 iPad points to later this year. This rumor is most likely accurate, judging by the release dates of previous editions. For instance, iPad 10.2 2019 came out on September 12, while iPad 10.2 2020 came out on September 15. That of 2021 came out on September 14 – mostly on Tuesdays.

So, it is apparent that Apple has a pattern they follow in announcing the release of their new iPads. Based on this and the leaks we’ve seen, the most probable date for the release of the 2022 iPad is September 13, 2022, which is also a Tuesday.

Announcements, however, do not translate to immediate availability. It can take a couple of days or weeks after this projected announcement date before the new iPad becomes available for purchase. As such, availability on market stores may be delayed till the September end or early October.

iPad 2022 Pricing

We are not expecting a significant price difference between this upcoming iPad and its predecessor. That’s because this iPad is an entry-level slate in Apple’s collection, and the focus is on making the tablet budget-friendly. As such, any significant price rise may mean the new iPad will suffer low patronage.

That said, there is no solid leak regarding the price of the iPad 2022 yet, but we can project based on the cost of the current iPad. The least of the iPad 10.2 2021, with 64GB memory, sells for $329, which is also not far from its predecessor, iPad 10.2 2020, which sold for $329 as its starting price.

Therefore the highest addition on previous prices that we can expect is $30 or less. Apple iPad 10th generation is not likely to be significantly more expensive than previous editions.

Rumored Features and Design

Much of the leaks about the design idea that Apple is planning for its next-gen iPad come from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). They discuss what Apple is currently working on, especially net generation tablets. Over the years, they have proved to be knowledgeable at knowing what Apple is thinking. And for the upcoming slate, DSCC hints at the possibility of Apple revamping the design of this entry-level tablet this year.

Many inside leaks suggest that 2024 might be when Apple releases a tablet with an OLED display. This leak does not mean that the screen size will exceed the 10.2 of its predecessor, but it hints at the possibility of Apple making the new release full screen by limiting its bezel. While there can be a leap in the screen size, we don’t think it will surpass the iPad Air, 10.9, unless the price shoots up. As for the screen, there is no idea of what it might be, but one can almost be sure Apple won’t jilt the LCD in its new release.

Let’s dig more into the leaks we have about this upcoming iPad.

Improved Connectivity and Chipset

iPad 10.2 2021 runs on the A13 Bionic chipset, which the iPhone 11 uses. If there’s any improvement, we expect the next-generation iPad to switch to the A14 Bionic chipset, which iPhone 12 uses. And who knows? It may even come with A15, but such a quantum leap is not Apple’s style.

We expect a 5.0 Bluetooth connectivity and 5G in the next-generation iPad later this year. Many sources with privileged information also hint at a Wi-Fi 6 connection, which would be a significant improvement on the predecessor.

However, we must cautiously believe in the rumor is the possibility of a 5G connection in the new release. Even iPad Air, which is much ahead, only just got upgraded to 5G. Apple may therefore want to wait longer to keep the seniority uncontested.

What About the Camera?

Oh yes! iPads are not becoming mini cameras for most users. Unfortunately, Apple is not putting much emphasis on iPad’s cameras as it is doing with the iPhones. That aside, since the current iPad witnessed a massive boost in its front camera, there may be little to expect in the new release. Of course, this is not cast in stone, and we can be wrong.

Our Wish List For iPad 2022

Whether some of the rumors we are hearing are true, we sure have some things we want to see in the next generation of iPad. Some of these include

  • Reduction in the bezel and a more modern look which ditches the home screen button
  • Improved storage size to at least 128 GB
  • Inclusion of the very important Face ID features would help keep the device more secure and easy to access.
  • Broader support for the latest iPad accessories, especially Apple Pencil 2 and keyboards
  • Audio improvement that includes two speakers instead of one that the current iPad parades

Wrapping Up

As the days run into weeks and weeks into months, we expect to have more information on Apple’s plans for the next-generation iPad. September is just a few months away, and much of what now exists as rumors will either be confirmed or discarded. We hope many of our wishes will reflect in the subsequent design that Apple will release later this year. As expected, we’d let you know once we have more information.
