Apple Watch 7 vs. Apple Watch 6: Should You Upgrade?

If you still can’t wrap your head around what it feels like to be a proud owner of a smart Watch then you’re missing out on something very important – well, because I’m about welcoming you into the world of smart Watches.

Seems Santa came early for us and Apple turned out to be that Santa. So, recently, Apple released a new Watch series – Apple Watch 7.

And just in case you are wondering how it is different from the Apple Watch 6, then it’s a no-brainer that you’re reading this article.

Now you ask how the Apple Watch 7 stands out from the Watch 6 and that’s exactly what this article is all about – to help you understand the difference between both gadgets and give you a solid reason to back up your choice if you wish to upgrade.

Grab some pie and juice as we go on a tour. Till the point, you get to see the word ‘cheers’ don’t stop reading. Let’s get started.

First, think of the Apple Watch 7 as an upgrade to the Apple Watch 6 flagship. At the same time, there exist some similarities between them.

I’d like you to note is that there isn’t any obvious change to look forward to in the 7th generation Watch.

However, some features set it apart and make it stand out from previous generation Watches, and these differences are seen in its thinner display borders, curvier shape, and also faster charging.

So, if you use an Apple Watch 6, you may be tempted to ask why you should trade your money for little upgrades on the Apple Watch 7. Well, little is big when it comes to gadgets and I would tell you why below as I take you through its features and then you decide if it is truly worth your money.

Design

In terms of appearance, compared to the Watch 6 in which it was quite difficult to tell apart from the Watch 5 and 4 except for the brighter always-on display but the game is changing with the series 7 as it’s easier to differentiate the Apple Watch 7 from the Watch 6 because of its slimmer display borders and curvier shape.

Water-resistance

For the water-resistant rating, just as in the series 6, the Apple Watch 7 maintains the same swim-proof rating (about 50meters) as that of the previous generation which makes it more shatter and dust resistant.

In addition, the series 7 has an IP6X certification which makes it more suitable for outdoor activities like sports, running, exercise, and when you want to hit the gym.

Here are key features with visible upgrades

Display

One of the most significant upgrades the Apple Watch 7 has over the series 6 is seen in its display. In recent times, you’d notice that Apple has not done anything to their Watch series in terms of display borders but this comes as a huge difference in this Watch 7 as its display is about 20% bigger than that of the Apple Watch 6.

The Apple Watch 7 features a tiny bezel of 1.7mm. Although the Watch 7 maintains the same frame, it looks a lot larger than the Watch 6.

Asides from the bigger screen, the display of the Apple Watch 7 is about 70% brighter than that of the Series 6 display in the Always-on mode. This means that you would be able to see all complications more easily than before.

Features

With each new version of the smart Watch Apple introduces, they always make sure to include a new feature that serves as a differentiating factor from the rest.

In the case of the Apple Watch 6, it came with a blood oxygen reader and always-on altimeter while the Apple Watch had a compass and had the first version of an always-on display.

On the other hand, the Apple Watch 7 new features are a little limited in comparison with the previous generation.

The Watch 7 does not give you fitness upgrades beyond what’s to be expected in the Watch OS 8. With the latest software version, the Apple Watch will be able to track Pilates and Tai Chi amongst a bunch of other software improvements.

One feature that sets the Apple Watch 7 apart (which makes it unique too) is that the screen has a full QWERTY keyboard for typing out a message that is one benefit of having an expanded screen. That’s cool, yeah? You bet!

Battery Life

For the Apple Watch 6, there was no improvement in the battery life despite the S6chipset. However, the cheering news is that the current Watch’s always-on display is two-and-a-half times brighter and 20% faster in performance than the series 5’s.

One question that may be pacing in your mind is this, will the battery life of the Apple Watch 7 extend past the custom 18-hour? Well, sorry to disappoint you on that but the answer is no. the Watch 7 has the same 18-hour battery life as that of the series 6 and 5.

However, the Apple Watch 7 can charge to full battery up to 33% faster with the new USB_C cord that comes in the box.

On the surface, Apple rates the smart Watch at a high range and so puts in everything it takes to add improvements with each release.

Albeit, in terms of appearance, there were no jaw-dropping upgrades made to the Watch 7 but an updated display would have been just perfect to make it outstanding.

When it comes to Watches, aesthetics matters. Who doesn’t love to have an aesthetically pleasing Watch sitting gallanting on your wrist?

In all that has been discussed above, the Apple 7 is cooler and it’s more of an upgrade to what you have in the Apple Watch 6.

However, if you feel very comfy with the Apple 6 and would not consider upgrading to the Watch 7, you’re still good to go, Afterall Apple smart Watches are designed in a way such that it lasts for quite an appreciable number of years.
