Should I Get an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy in 2020?

It may be true that 2020 has been the year where it almost seems like every weird and wrong thing in the world is revealing itself without any restraint. Up is down, down is up, order is chaos and chaos is order. However, it has not gone so awry enough for certain things to have changed – like the simple fact that we are still in a modern age where everything is still digitalized and so the weirdness has not yet returned us to the analogue age or even the stone age. That said, hardly anybody is still left these days without a digital device – a phone. Almost everybody – if not everybody – has a phone these days, it is really just a question of what type of phone they are using.

Today, Android and iPhones have dominated over 90% of the phone market. As you can imagine, the market has been largely polarized by these two. It’s mostly either android or iPhone. However, there is a twist. With the incredible advancement of Samsung far above and beyond their peers in the android business, there is another polarity between the android used by Samsung users and the android used by other phone makers. Also, the incredible genius behind iOS technology is far greater than most androids and quite fairly, only Samsung android can reasonably compete with it.

Should I Get an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy

As you might already know, with great technology, comes great cost. The advancement of the phones makes them a very high budget. As such, they already have a market of their own and that is where they compete. Therefore, if anything is also really polarized at the moment, it is the market for high budget smartphones. Basically, there is a north pole for iPhone and Samsung users and then the south pole for “others”. It is just about where you belong.

However, for those in the upper echelon of the phone community, there has been an age-long debate between Samsung users and android users: Which is better? iPhone or Samsung. A strong argument exists for both sides which truly does make this one a tough call if you have to decide which one you want to buy in 2020.

Perhaps, we could shed light on both parties and you could decide depending on your preference.

To begin with, what is the difference between iPhone and Samsung?

I mean, apart from the fact that one is Apple/iOS and the other one is Android, there’s got to be some other differences, right?  There are!

  • Usage: When it comes to the ease of use for both devices, it cannot be denied that both iOS and Android interface are easy to use and you can be rest assured that you won’t have any problems using any of them. However, if we consider how the home-screen is set up and the general appearance of the home screen, perhaps, the balance tilts toward android. Generally, android phones (Samsung in this case) gives you a lot of control over your device and the apps that come with it. You can set up your device exactly the way you want it and be flexible with it.
  • Aesthetics: When it comes to phone selection, you might want to consider the kind of design and beauty the phone has because quite frankly, everybody loves good aesthetics. In all cases, iPhones have great designs. This is because Apple manufacturers produce luxury phones. As a result, you can expect that the next iPhone will be much more beautiful in comparison to the previous one. As far as Samsung phones go, many of them also come with awesome designs. For example, Samsung S7 is very much as aesthetically pleasing as iPhone 7 plus. However, this is not always the case because as much as these android producers also want aesthetics, it’s not their primary goal as it is with apple. So in making your decision, if you care about aesthetics, you might want to have it at the back of your mind that you may not see a Samsung phone better designed than a particular iPhone.

  • Price: The reason I said earlier that these two have a market of their own is because their prices are high. Much higher than your average smartphone. To choose between the two, well, for iPhones, one thing you can always be sure about is that they come in high prices. It is certain. To get an iPhone, you will have to pay top dollar. For example, when iPhone X first got to the market, its starting price was $1,000. The iPhone 11 Pro Max had a starting price of $1,100 and iPhone 11 had a starting price of $700. Even iPhone SE that was meant to be iPhone “budget” phone was $400. However, Samsung phones have prices that vary from mildly expensive to very expensive depending on what you are getting. Very good Samsung phones can go for $200 – $300. However, for the ones that can actually compete with iPhones, you would have to dig really deep into your pocket. For example, Samsung’s latest Z lineup costs $1,400. More expensive than the iPhone prices listed up. Just look at that!

  • Closed and open systems: One major difference between androids and iPhones is the fact that android is open source while iPhone is closed source. What this means is that for android, different developers could improve the system and any developer can create an app on android, unlike highly proprietary iPhone. Whatever you are going to get can only be gotten through apple otherwise you won’t get it. This is a safety measure to ensure that not just anything gets on apple devices.

  • Security: There is not much of a debate here if we are keeping things real. iPhone is more secure. It has a better touch ID and a much better face ID. Also, there is a lesser risk of downloading apps with malware on iPhones than with android phones. However, Samsung phones are also very secure so it’s a difference that may not necessarily de a deal-breaker.
  • Battery life: Samsung holds the advantage here. iPhones aren’t exactly known for their large battery capacity. As such, Samsung phones last longer and may not need to be charged as often as that of an iPhone.

  • Camera: Here, one thing is for sure, both devices offer great camera quality. The camera quality is so good, it could replace a dedicated camera. Samsung camera has some top functions like wide-angle mode, low light-HDR, and a scene optimizer which adjusts camera settings to get the ideal shot depending on the subject. However, iPhone has slightly better camera features, for example, live photos. iPhone camera also seems more ideal for third-party app capturing. Overall, you cannot go wrong in this section. Whichever one you choose will still give you a great result.

  • Storage: iPhones have always had a storage issue largely down to the fact that they don’t come with support for SD cards. However, this was improved with iPhone 11 Pro which has a space of 512GB internal storage. This is still not comparable to Samsung S10 which has up to 512GB internal storage and also supports up to 512GB micro SD card.

  • Peripherals: This may not seem so important but it probably is. People generally tend to connect their phones to other devices, for example, laptops. All android devices use standard USB ports so you can always connect your phones to external gears. However, iPhones don’t use USB. As such, another external device that will connect with the phone’s proprietary lightning port is needed. This is an extra cost as USB cables are generally cheaper than lightning port cousins.

All these said, one thing we can ascertain is that whether you choose to go with a Samsung or an iPhone, you cannot go wrong because they are both high-quality phones. They have advantages in different aspects but they are generally very close. In the end, let your taste and your pocket decide!

  1. Comparing iPhone and Samsung should include the ability of iOS to share across all family iPhones And MacOS devices. Can Samsung do that?

    • also the constriction of your Data once you put your music in itunes it is there for ever. you have to keep a backup. they encode your music and there is no removing anything you buy on their store. So you Don’t really own it just a lease for use on their devices. that being said if That’s what you want go for it. I just Prefer the options to buy unlocked phones anytime i want and get flagship picture quality for 400 us.

  2. Google integration in Samsung is why I keep going back to Samsung Siri is like the bad receptionist that needs to be fired, yet she is still there, almost completely useless, and so unreliable that you just quit using her for anything. I broke down and now have both. All my kids are on apple, and it is better for texting. In Fact Apple puts their hooks in you, not just all of the Melinials drink the apple juice, here is how….when you leave apple and go to Droid, imessages no longer works. There is supposedly a workaround by deactivating your apple ID, however I have found that it only works for a short while, and then you never receive any messages sent to you through imessage…Just one example of why Apple is disappointing.

  3. samsung is the best in everything but in iPhone they only got a better, smooth software but still samsung got a really nice software tho

    • You only think that because you have a Samsung, if you had an iPhone you would think that iPhones are better. Neither is really better at everything, they are both better at certain things and no one can ever agree on something.

  4. Good and unbiased, I personally like the look of iPhone much more but I also appreciate the way Samsung keeps the interface simple but very customizable.

    • 3D Face ID sensors? Samsung still doesn’t have those and that’s why their Face ID is nowhere near as secure as iPhone because iPhones detect your face in 3D and Samsung’s do it in 2D so any picture would work. That’s why Samsung stuck with fingerprint sensors

  5. What do you mean iphone has better touch id samsung and many other Android devices have in display fingerprint and face id is so old we’ve had it for years

    • But apple had a touch id before samsung at 2013 but samsung just introduced the fingerprint scanner 1 year later at 2014. Idk why apple ditched the touch id but they must have a good reason why,, and face id is not terrible tho

    • No one said they’re luxury, people say they’re premium though and they are because they have stainless steel sides and a ceramic glass inbedded screen, also the camera has sapphire in it so maybe you can see why they’re so expensive now. People always say that Samsung’s are way cheaper too but they go for the same price or even more. Of course they can go for less too.

  6. the author who wrote this article seems biased to the limit, tell the people the truth you tool…samsung will always outrun iphone with better technology. it’s been proven numerous times. iphone is only popular by demand ,it’s a sh**ty phone.

  7. I noticed more and more immigrants prefer using Androids specifically Samsung brands. Is because most immigrant families in poverty stricken countries get Samsungs because the majority use pc’s.

  8. I Switch to iPhone because I feel more secure than Samsung.. very expensive though ?.. but hey’ you don’t need to upgrade your phone annually, so I guess it’s worth it.

  9. Samsung is always better, Compare the latest iPhone vs Latest Samsung and see the difference “iPhone 12 vs Samsung Galaxy S20”.

  10. I think the two phones are good in their respective ways,as for the iPhone,I think there is nothing really attached to it except for the fact that it is luxurious and flashy bit the Samsung you can so a lot especially when you go for Samsung note.So in conclusion if you want the best you should go for the Samsung but you want something luxurious and more secure you should just go for the iPhone but as for me I will go for the Samsung ?

  11. I’ve always had samsung but now am considering getting an iphone. I’m still not sure whether to go go for Samsung or iphone.

  12. get an iphone. I hate to say this.

I bought a galaxy 20 fe because my iphone 7 was loosing battery life like crazy…apple has openly admitted they not only slow down older phones but also make them drain battery faster…simply don’t update and you can prevent this.

For instance, samsung phones don’t have any inborn apps for music…my truck would connect to my iphone and I could browse it’s music directory; I could open a playlist and select a specific playlist, song, artist, etc, FROM THE TRUCKS HEAD UNIT…samsung…NOPE. I had to first download a third party player and even then my truck would play what my phone played, it would skip up and down using the steering wheel controls, but it would not display the actual song being played nor would it let me browse my song inventory…I had to do that from the phone.

And while the app on my samsung would let me add/remove songs I couldn’t actually move a song to a different position in the playlist.

These are NOT user friendly phones at ALL…it’s not a learning curve issue it’s a lack of features issue…and what’s so sad is there is no reason for this. Android should be far superior feature-wise but for some unknown reason they just aren’t.

Android/samsung fans want you to think it’s like when you switch to linux on a windows pc…it’s not. linux actually has the same features but with a bit of a learning curve…samsung/android phones simply lack those features all together. No reason for this but they do…so…sadly…stick with iphone…I am currently returning my samsung phone as I type this.

  13. Apple is built on predatory platform. certain features only work between Apple devices. Apple is so rich, they make deals with other companies to exclusively work with their phones/devices. So if one friend or family member has an android phone/device, they can’t receive all medium from iPhone users. This makes the Android users feel left out and think about switching to Apple. and once you have an Apple device, you need IPad, special ear pods, and every other apple accessory. It’s all a rip off for every app, music, video, hardware, that is cheaper through android devices. But you may have to be smarter or more patient to get the android parts to work together. Screw Apple’s predatory behavior…

  14. i recommend to buy iPhone my mum has been using samsung for the past 4 years and she said it was the worst experience she is switching to apple so buy iPhone
