iPad Pro 2020 Rumour Summary: Time of Flight System? Triple-Camera? Larger Battery Capacity? Mini-LED?

The iPad Pro is certainly one of the newer products that Apple has introduced. First brought to markets in 2015, the iPad Pro is considered a type of hybrid between the iPad and the MacBook. The iPad Pro 2020 has reasonably high specs and is quickly taking over the iPad. Here in this article we take a deep dive into all the rumors around about the iPad Pro 2020 that might be dropping. One of the biggest rumors out there is that there may be 2 different releases of iPad Pros in March 2020.

Time-of-Flight Camera System

Apple knows very well that most iPad Pro users, get the iPad Pro 2020 for professional or productivity reasons. It is a handy device to have if you need to edit photos and videos on the go. Thus, it is highly speculated that Apple would introduce a time-of-flight (ToF) camera system. This type of camera system uses lasers to determine the distance from an object and thus allows the iPad Pro to use the information to create a precise 3D rendering of the object. From there users can edit the rendering with their Apple Pencil on an application. There has also long been speculation that Apple plans on making the iPad Pro function such that professional users will be able to comfortably shoot and edit high definition 4K quality videos from a single device. This creates much more versatility when it comes to travelling while editing videos.

Current Specs: Currently no iPad Pro uses a Time of Flight system.

Mini-LED

Implementing a Mini-LED display means that the image quality would be much higher than the current display. Image quality improvement means that there would be a much wider color gamut performance and a high contrast screen. Mini-LED implementation would also allow for the iPad Pro to be much thinner than before.

Current Specs: Currently there is the 11 and 12.9 inch iPad Pro screens with edge-to-edge display and no home buttons. Both versions also have a new Liquid Retina display that according to Apple is the most advance display they have ever implemented with wide color support, True Tone for use under ambient light and ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate technology.

Triple Rear Camera

From a recent leak of a dummy version of the new iPad Pro, there appears to be a triple rear camera. The current iPad Pro only has one rear camera and so this would be quite the upgrade. However, it would flow along with the idea that Apple also plans on installing the ToF system. However, as of now, it is uncommon for users to use a tablet as their primary video/photo capturing device. Thus, the extent to which this would be useful for everyday users is questionable.

Current Specs: Currently all iPad Pros have a single lends rear camera and a front facing camera.

Changes that users want to see

Longer Battery Life

The current version of the iPad Pro has poor battery life especially when accounting for the fact that the iPad Pro has been used to replace the laptop. The current battery life is not even close to that of a laptop and that is disappointed. Most of the battery appears to be spent on the large screen of the iPad Pro and thus a lightweight but clearer screen would be preferred. In other words, a mini-LED display upgrade would be much preferred. However, Apple has used LCD or LED screens all along and we are unsure if there is definite change coming.

Improved Face ID

Users have noticed that the Face ID technology can be unreliable at times. Although the Face ID technology was revolutionary at the time it was introduced with the iPhone X, many have complained that simply typing in your password could be faster at times. Alternatively, Apple could also introduce an infra-red fingerprint sensor like the Samsung Galaxy S10 line. Apple’s Touch ID was known for being flawless and finding a way to implement that along with the Face ID and password might be a good way of giving users options to sign into their iPad Pro.

5G Connectivity

This is one appears to be one of the most anticipated but also has a low chance of actually happening. The most distinct reason for this would be that Apple very rarely introduces a feature in the iPad Pro before ‘trying’ it out on the iPhone series first. Thus, it is more likely that 5G compatible iPhone would come out first before an iPad Pro that is compatible with 5G gets released. There has previously been speculation that iPad Pro with 5G compatibility will arrive in 2021 and that seems highly likely too.

Mouse Compatibility

There appears to be a divide with some people wanting this and others claiming that this would make the iPad Pro’s functionality as a tablet quite pointless because carrying the mouse would be a hassle. Currently there are backdoor methods via which you could use a mouse with your iPad Pro. However, these methods are very complicated and risky. Apple’s iPad Pro is currently not officially compatible with a mouse.

Improved Smart Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil

This may not be a direct iPad Pro upgrade but many iPad Pro users also use the Smart Keyboard Folio. One of the major downfalls of the current iPad Pro Smart Keyboard Folio is certainly the lack of backlight which can make it very hard to use under dim or poor lighting. The issue with the Apple Pencil would be the weak magnetic link between the Apple Pencil and the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil can very easy   fall off or get detached if it comes into a small amount of force. Since the Apple Pencil also charges this way, it can mean that you may find you Apple Pencil at low battery when you need it most

Conclusion:

There is still a lot of speculation around the functionalities that could be implemented in the iPad Pro 2020 to look forward to. Given that we haven’t had any new iPad releases in 2020 it is highly likely that we can look forward to a release in the year 2020. There do not appear to be any plans to rename the iPad Pro either. The year 2020 may be an exciting year for the iPad Pro and we would have to wait to see how it goes.
